Adapted by Michael Morpurgo and Emma Rice from The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips
Based on Michael Morpurgo’s The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, 946 explodes everything we thought we knew about the D-Day landings. With signature Kneehigh sorcery, 946 uses music, puppetry and foolishness to tell this tale of war, prejudice and love.
Tender, political and surprisingly romantic, this story speaks to us all and will finally reveal the secrets the US and British governments tried to keep quiet.
Directed by Emma Rice, with a Kneehigh cast that includes Mike Shepherd, Craig Johnson, Giles King, Patrycja Kujawska and Katy Owen, composition by Stu Barker, design by Lez Brotherston and lighting design by Malcom Rippeth, this promises to be an event to remember in the enchanted setting of the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Slapton Sands, 1943. Lily Tregenza, her family and her cat Tips are trying to live [a] normal village life in the midst of World War II. After being bombarded with evacuees from London, village life is halted as the American GIs come to train for the D-Day landings. Lily and her family are evacuated themselves, moving their entire lives away from Slapton, but Tips gets left behind.
Brave and determined, Lily sets out to rescue Tips, accompanied by her townie friend Barry and looked after by black American GI Adolphus Adi T. Madison. Her village has transformed into a warzone and Tips is nowhere to be seen.
